Charlene Thornton Ferguson

Charlene Thornton Ferguson, age 88, of Warren, AR died Monday June 5 at the Pines Nursing and Rehab Center in Hot Springs, AR. She was born on New Years Day, 1929 at Sumpter, AR, one of nine children of Charlie Green Thornton and Wadie Smith Thornton. She was a home maker and retired tomato farmer, and a member of Martins Chapel United Methodist Church at Sumpter, AR. Charlene was a graduate of Hermitage High School. She enjoyed feeding birds especially hummingbirds, cooking and gardening, as well as her grandchildren and grand-dogs. She lived most of her life in the country between Warren and Hermitage at Sumpter, Bradley County, AR with later stops at Warren, Star City, and finally Hot Springs, AR. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 49 years, Homer K. Ferguson, as well as two sisters, Louise Thornton Camp and Rachel Thornton Taylor, and five brothers, W.J. Thornton, Leroy Thornton, Leon Thornton, Harold Kenneth Thornton and Charles Thornton. Also preceding her in death was son in law Perry Meyer. She is survived by three children, Ann Meyer of Denver, CO, Sandra Ferrell (Harry C.) of Hot Springs, AR, and David Charles Ferguson (Belinda) of Jonesboro, AR. Additionally four grandchildren, Homer Ross Meyer, Denver, CO, Julie Ann Meyer Julian, Denver, CO, Jake Ferguson, Los Angeles, CA and Luke Ferguson, Memphis, TN, and three great-grandchildren, Ryan Julian, Sean Hembree, and Alex Julian all of Denver, CO. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law Billy Joe and Wilma Thornton, and sister-in-law Hilda Thornton all of Warren, AR. And her adopted grandchild Megan Savage of Amity, AR formerly of Warren, AR, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were 2:00 p.m. Saturday June 10, at Frazerís Funeral Home, Warren, AR with Rev. Wayman Mann officiating. Linda Barrett was organist. Active pallbearers were Gary Thornton, Robert Camp, Doug Thornton, Jimmy Dale Camp, Keith Thornton, John Neely, Kevin Thornton, Homer Meyer, Jake Ferguson and Luke Ferguson. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. David Chambers and Steve Parnell. Burial was in Outlaw Cemetery by Frazerís In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Bradley County Veterans Museum, 210 N. Main Street, Warren, AR 71671, or the local charity of your choice.
