Merle Parker Witherington age 91, of Harrell, AR. died Thursday, May 17th in Pine Bluff, AR. She was born August 4th 1920 in Bradley County, AR. a daughter of the late Samuel Van Parker and Iva Kate Neal Parker. “She was a retired employee of the El Dorado News Times newspaper, a homemaker, and a member of the Harrell United Methodist Church. On October 22, 1944 she married L.A. “Luke” Witherington Jr. and he died February 19th, 1997, also preceding her in death was an infant sister Erma Van Parker. Survivors include 4 daughters: Myrna Kaye Thomas, Pine Bluff, AR. Sandy Nash (Odell), Harrell, AR. Rita Coleman (Rick Long), Benton, AR. and Iva Gail Stafford,(Stacy), Harrell, AR.; a sister Rae Parker Harrell, Harrell, AR.; 8 grandchildren: Jim, Hayden, Sam, Chris, Parker, Robbie, Josh and Emily; and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were 10:00am Monday, May 21st at Harrell United Methodist Church with Rev. Sam Thomas and Rev. Buddy Hamner officiating. Organist was Jack Jones and soloist was Sandy Nash. Burial was in Neal Cemetery by Frazer’s Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were Jim Thomas, Hayden Thomas, Sam Thomas, Chris Nash, Parker Nash, Robbie Coleman and Josh Coleman. Memorials can be made to the Harrell United Methodist Church.
