William Clifton W.C. Mann

William Clifton “ W.C.” Mann, age 92, of Warren, AR went to be with the Lord, April 27, 2010 while in St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock, AR. He was born August 9, 1917 at Sumpter, AR. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during World War II. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Warren. He was a retired farmer who spent many years working with the University of Arkansas Horticultural Department in development of the “Bradley” and “Arkansas Traveler” tomatoes that helped make Bradley County famous. His family was also named “Farm Family of the Year” for his efforts. He served 6 years on the Hermitage School Board of Directors, was a past board member of the Hermitage Pink Tomato Association, was on the Farm Bureau Board of Directors for 36 years, and his proudest accomplishment was 18 years as a member of the Bradley County Quorum Court. While a member of the Quorum Court he was privileged to perform several weddings. He was an avid outdoorsman, spending many years hunting, fishing and trapping which was his true love. He was President of the Arkansas Trappers Association as well as the Bradley County Trappers Association and named Bradley County Trapper of the Year in 1984 and Arkansas Trapper Association Trapper of the Year in 1985. He shared his knowledge of trapping and all outdoor life with his children, grandchildren, great- grandchildren any and all who were interested. In his later years, after losing most of his vision and hearing, he would put the radio in his lap and listen to all Arkansas Razorback, Warren Lumberjack, and Hermitage Hermit ball games that were broadcast. He was also a true Detroit Tigers fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton Riley Mann and Lillie Stuard Mann, sisters Gertie Reddin, Ida Cox, Jewel Baird, and Ruby Reddin. He is survived by his wife, Lera Katherine Grider Mann whom he married April 2, 1938. brother Bill Mann of Redding, CA, sister Rachel Campbell of Fresno, CA, son William Larry Mann and spouse Carol of Warren, daughter Vicky Kay Hulse and spouse Bobby of Norfork, Ar, 7 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral service was Friday April 30 at 10a.m. in Frazer’s Chapel with Rev. Jim Bales and Rev. Wayman Mann officiating. Music was provided by Danny Williams and Linda Barrett. Burial with flag presentation was in Outlaw Cemetery at Sumpter. Active pallbearers were Todd Richards, Johnathan Wood, Ben Raney, Doyle Gill, Ben Wood, Coy Drewery, Randy Clanton, and John McAlpine. Honorary pallbearers were Hunter Mann, Riley Robertson, Issac Hulse, Dodge Harris, Satchel Harris, Zack Richards, Cody Mann, Cullen Cabral, Cade Richards, Bret Lawhon, Roger Grider, Roman Richards, and Dustin Angle.
